Former national weightlifting champion Ransilu Jayatillake made Sri Lanka proud by winning Gold in the 120 kg class body weight category at the Singapore Open Power Lifting Championships held in Singapore recently. Ransilu made a total lift of 685kg consisting of 305.5kg dead lift. This goes on record as being the highest ever lift by a Sri Lankan in the history of this game. He also has lifted 260kg in squat and 122.5 in bench press.

“This was a great achievement for me in my relatively young weightlifting career. This medal has given me further inspiration to do even better and bring more gold to my motherland. I know that I can do it”, Ransilu said confidentially. 28-year-old Ransilu’s rich sporting record consists of 24 international medals in weightlifting and powerlifting, inclusive of a gold medal at the Youth Commonwealth Games and Silver at the Junior World Powerlifting Championship.

Currently working at Commercial Credit and Finance PLC, Ransilu contributes greatly to the uplift of sports at the Company and is also the strength and conditioning coach at Science College, Mount Lavinia. A product of Kingswood College, Kandy, Ransilu trained at the Kandy YMCA and under his father, D.U.M. Jayatillake. He is currently training to take part in the Commonwealth Championships in December in Vancouver, Canada.
