Wellawatte Nithyakalyani Jewellery tosses Gold for 135th Battle of the Blues

Wellawatte Nithyakalyani Jewellery came forth as a sponsor for the 135th Battle of the Blues, partnering the event by handing over a commemorative gold toss coin to the organisers at the launch held recently at the Ministry of Sports Auditorium. The gold coin will be used at the much celebrated toss of the big match cricket encounter between Royal College, Colombo and S. Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavinia. The commemorative gold coin was ceremoniously handed over by Nithyakalyani Partner Y.P. Sivakumar to Royal-Thomian 2014 Joint Organising Committee Chairman Harith Jayasuriya, Royal College Principal Upali Gunasekara and S. Thomas’ College Warden Prof. Indra De Soysa. According to the Joint Organising Committee Chairman, this gold coin will be used annually during the big match encounter hereon and will remain in a bank vault. Nithyakalyani CEO A.P. Jayarajah said: “As the leader in jewellery exports, we are proud to partner an event of this calibre which brings together the true traditions of both the colleges, well-wishers from Sri Lanka as well as around the world.” The match, which is played for the prestigious D.S. Senanayake Memorial Shield, will be held at the Sinhalese Sports Club grounds (SSC) on 13, 14 and 15 March. This annual three-day encounter has been played by the two schools since 1879, and is acknowledged to be the second-longest uninterrupted schools cricket match in the world. The three-day encounter will be followed by the 39th ‘Mustangs Trophy’ One Day encounter on 22 March, also played at SSC.
