One hundred and forty years ago, on 2 March 1874, Rev. Samuel (R. Wilkin and Rev. D. Henry Pereira, Principal and vice Principal respectively) lead an institution that throughout the 140 years produced great scholars, professionals, entrepreneurs business leaders and many distinguished leading personalities in Sri Lanka. With 140 years of Wesley pride, in producing some of Sri Lanka’s top notch citizens, this great institution is now not only famous in Sri Lanka, but also internationally. As such, 2014 is going to be quite a significant year for all Wesleyites with arrangements in place for a year filled with events in various forms to celebrate this significant achievement. In preparation of the remarkable milestone of 140 years of Wesley pride, Wesley College together with its Old boys Union has organised an event in the historical Wesley College main hall which has been built on the second highest natural ground in Colombo. The event was graced by the dynamic Principle Dr. Shanti McLelland and his wife, OBU President Ivor Maharoof, Wesley College Welfare President Raja Sinnadurai and OWSC Past President Richie Sappideen. Further, the occasion was attended by many other senior old boys, present boys and parents who made a full house.     Humble and historic beginnings The event commenced with a video depicting the historical humble beginnings of the school in 1874 and the gradual development to the its glorified current position in the country. Many significant achievements and milestones were showcased through the video and there were messages carried out by the Principal, OBU President and OWSC President adding flavour to the evening. The focal point of the evening came when the announcement of the 140 years logo, which was selected through a competition, conducted through the whole of the Wesley College student population and the old boy’s fraternity. The winner was presented with a valuable gift. What was special to note is that the winning entry for the logo came from a student of Methodist College, Colombo whose father is a prominent old boy. The evening further followed with a presentation of activities and events that would follow through to 2014 celebrating the 140 years anniversary. The list shown portrayed an eventful 2014 for the college and all present was overwhelmed by the sheer enthusiasm the batches of old boys showed in planning and getting the 140 year celebrations going. After all the formalities, the invitees were taken into the iconic OWSC rail carriage for a fellowship and networking session. Let the Games Begin! Ora et Labora!
