Wesley College holds first-ever swimming meet

Wesley College had its first ever swimming Gala in grand style which was organised by the ‘Batch of 93’. The event was organised to promote and encourage every single Wesleyite to learn to swim, and thereon, to become champion swimmers. It was yet another avenue for budding Wesleyites to show and prove their multiple talents to the world. The event was featured under 7, 8, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17 and 19 respectively covering the skills that the boys have picked up within the last year in Free style, Butter fly stroke, Back Stroke, Breast Stroke Medley Relay for juniors and seniors covering distances of 25m, 50m, 100m and 200m.There were around 2,000 boys participating over 2 days of heat which were planned before the final event. The Overall Best Swimmer of the event was awarded to Captain of the Wesley Swimming Squad Mario Gurusingha. Other Championships awarded were Overall Under 19 Champion – Mario Gurusingha, Under 17 Champion – Thariq Bin Ubaid, Under 15 Champion – Shamod Athulathmudali, Under 13 Champion – Aaqib Thahir, Under 11 Champion – Murthaaz Abdul Barry and Under 9 Joint Championship – Wahid Hassen and Akif Ahamed. Principal Dr. Shanthi McLell distributed awards and certificates to the winners.
