Western Province South beat Western Province North in the final and became the champions of the Prima 2012 Under 15 limited over tournament at the district and provincial level tournament which was concluded at R. Premadasa stadium recently.

Western Province North took the first lease of the wicket after losing the toss and scored 266 for 9 in their 50 overs which was quite sufficient for their bowlers to defend. Malinga Amarasinghe made 74 off 85 deliveries with 4 sixes and 4 fours and his innings immensely helped Western Province North’s lower order batsmen to free their hands during the slog overs. Lower order batsmen Poorna Charuka (33) and Navod Kalansuriya (34) together with the quick fire 21 off just 6 balls with 3 consecutive sixes in the final over by Rahal Avishka, saw their side piled up a challenging total.

Western Province South achieved their target of 267 with 4 overs to spare, by scoring 269 for 7 wickets; Western Province South openers Avishka Fernando who made a well compiled 89, and Ravindu Sanjeewa (26), gave a solid foundation for their run chase with a partnership of 79 for the first wicket in 13 overs and Lakshina Rodrigo’s 69, which too included 3 consecutive sixes, held their innings together and ensured the victory for Colombo South in the end by 3 wickets. Dileepa Jayalath picked up 3 wickets for Colombo North.

The Carlton Sports Network (CSN), the leading sports TV channel in Sri Lanka, very successfully telecast the full match live on their TV channel in collaboration with yet another upcoming sports website in Sri Lanka, www.batsman.com, which provided a ball by ball description of the tournament to make this event a complete success.
