In a bid to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the historic 1996 Cricket World Cup victory by the Sri Lankans, arrangements have been made by the Sri Lankan Cricketers Association, in collaboration with the official sponsor of the 1996 World Cup winning team Singer Sri Lanka, to offer Sri Lankan cricket fans an opportunity to watch the World Cup-winning team in action again under the captaincy of Arjuna Ranatunga.

The World Cup-winning team will meet an ‘All Stars’ XI in an exhibition T20 cricket match on 19 March at the CCC grounds.

The Sri Lankan cricketing legends including the first Test captain Bandula Warnapura, Kumar Sangakkara and  Mahela Jayawardene  are due to represent the ‘All Stars XI’ on this occasion.

After the cricket match at the same venue, arrangements also have been made to stage a musical evening featuring well-known Sri Lankan artists. Whilst enjoying the music, Sri Lankan cricket fans will get a great opportunity to meet their cricketing heroes of yesteryear, who will be there to grace this wonderful occasion.

The organisers invite the cricket-loving public in Sri Lanka to participate in this great event which will not only provide the fun of cricket and music but also a rare opportunity for the public to be a partner of a noble act as proceeds of this event would be invested in launching a water-purifying project with a view to supplying pure water for the people in the north and east, who have been badly affected due to consumption of contaminated water. It is a matter that has led to kidney ailments among the people of that area. The proceeds will also be used in building a trust fund for the welfare of past cricketers who are in need of financial assistance.
