The Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU), in partnership with the New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU), will conduct a World Rugby Coaching Level 2 course and a junior coaching program from 24-28 September in Colombo and Kandy.
Training and Education programs will be conducted by two New Zealand World Rugby Educators Jared Tuoro and Jarvey Aoake along with three Sri Lankan World Rugby accredited coach educators, Nihal Viper Gunaratne, Sanath Martis and Ananda Kasthuriarachchi, assisting them.
Jared Tuoro is a Regional Coach and Development Manager of New Zealand Rugby. He is responsible for organising regional and national coach development workshops and courses and he has 12 years’ experience under his belt in rugby development. Tuoro has a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Coaching, is a World Rugby Trainer and a Level 4 Accredited Coach.
Meanwhile, Aoake is a Rugby Development Officer for Hawkes Bay Rugby Union. He is responsible for running Rugby Smart, the New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU) coach safety and injury prevention course and the NZ Rugby ‘Developing Rugby Coaches Course’ (World Rugby Level 2). He is a World Rugby accredited coach educator, plays for a local club and has recently debuted as a prop for the Magpies in the Mitre 10 Cup competition. Aoake has a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management and is a Level 3 Accredited Coach.
The World Rugby Coaching Level 2 course will be conducted from 24 to 26 September in Colombo for 30 coaches. All ‘A’ Division rugby-playing clubs and Division 1 Group ‘A’ schools are invited to nominate one coach each to follow this course.
There will be a junior coaching program in Colombo on 27 September and one in Kandy on 28 September. Junior coaches from all rugby-playing clubs and schools interested in participating in the junior coaching programs are requested to register with the SLRFU before 19 September. The SLRFU has been in line with World Rugby policies from 2017 and stipulates that all local coaches should have World Rugby accredited coaching qualifications and be registered with SLRFU.
Two unbeaten teams in the Under 18 segment, Isipathana and Kingswood will battle it out in the Milo Under 18 final which will take place at the CR & FC grounds today. This will be the last game for Isipathana head Coach, Nilfer Ibrahim as he will sign up with Joes rugby for 2016/2017.
