Zahira College Colombo First Eleven Cricket Team felicitated

The Cricket Committee of Zahira College Colombo organised a felicitation dinner for the cricketers of the first eleven cricket team of the college at the College Main Hall recently.

  The driving force that gave way to the Cricket Committee to organise this event was the performance of the First Eleven Cricket Team as Zahira participated in 18 cricket matches at the Division І Level out of which 14 of them were drawn and the other 4 were won. The key performances being 1425 runs scored by the skipper Imraz Rafi and a great bowling performance by Pradeep Ananda snatching 59 wickets made the Zahira Team unbeaten for the whole season. The event was a resounding success which not only saw the attendance of the former cricket captains as well as the former cricketers but also felicitated the cricketers for their performance. The Cricket Committee is also making arrangements to organise a tour to Malaysia. The chief guest of the event was Branudeen Amit and the guests of honour were, Muttiah Devaraj and Samsudeen Macan Markar (former cricket captains of Zahira). The chairman of the Board of Governors of Zahira College Colombo, Fouzul Hameed; Principal, Mohamed Jiffry, all shared their thoughts by addressing the audience. Distinguished old boys, cricket captains and cricketers also graced the occasion. The senior coach Mahesh Weerasinghe and the fielding coach Sampath Epasinghe were also felicitated for their good work along with the entire cricket team that was felicitated with valuable gifts. Chairman of the cricket committee, Milhan Lafir played a vital role in organising this event and it is certain that there will be more to come from the cricket committee of the college.
