s annual event celebrates outstanding achievements in the packaging industry, recognizing innovators and leaders who set benchmarks in various categories.
Since its inception in 1987, the Lanka Star Awards have played a pivotal role in driving excellence in the local packaging sector. The primary objective of this awards program is to elevate the standards of Sri Lanka’s packaging industry to align with global benchmarks, focusing on competitiveness, design appeal, sustainability, and environmental stewardship.
This year’s event was a testament to the unwavering support of SLIP’s members and stakeholders. Their dedication has been instrumental in the sustained success of the awards over the years. I extend my heartfelt appreciation to all participants for their enthusiasm and commitment, which have consistently fueled the event’s growth. Notably, this year saw a remarkable 65% increase in entries compared to the previous year, a clear indicator of the industry’s dynamism and innovation.
Diverse Entry Categories
The Lanka Star Awards featured a wide range of categories, reflecting the multifaceted nature of the packaging industry. These included:
Consumer Packaging, Packaging Material, Point of Purchase/Sale, Transport, Accessories, Marketing, Food Saving, Innovation, and Sustainable/Eco-Friendly Packaging.
Entry submissions opened in June 2024 and closed in September 2024, attracting a diverse array of innovative solutions.
Awards were presented in gold, silver, and bronze tiers, with a special Platinum Award for the highest aggregate score across all categories. The President’s Award recognized the participant with the highest overall points, underscoring exceptional achievement.
This year’s judging panel consisted of an independent team of experts drawn from the packaging industry, academic institutions, government bodies, and NGOs. Their impartial evaluations ensured that the competition adhered to world-class standards, enhancing the credibility and prestige of the awards.
