The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) and the Global Alliance for a Sustainable Planet (GASP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to tackle urgent climate change issues and promote sustainable development globally.
This partnership comes as the recent Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report highlights a significant risk of global temperatures rising 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels within the next few years due to increasing greenhouse gas emissions.
Under this new MOU, the CCC and GASP, a USA-based public organisation, will collaborate to empower communities to improve their quality of life without compromising the future. They aim to connect global scientific and development communities to share best practices focused on sustainable development and poverty alleviation.
The partnership will support high-quality, ethically conducted scientific research in areas critical to environmental and social well-being, and aim to bridge the gap between government entities, the private sector, and local communities, to drive large-scale positive change.
The agreement was signed by Ceylon Chamber Secretary General and CEO Buwanekabahu Perera and GASP Secretary General Satya Tripathi. The signing took place following the IORA Business Conclave 2024, hosted in May by the Ceylon Chamber, where Tripathi served as the keynote speaker.
The MOU underscores the commitment to leverage private finance for the public good, aiming to scale up investments that enhance the economic prospects of disadvantaged populations through focused climate action.
