President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday assured the country that the Central Bank bond issue would be subject to an independent judicial process, ensuring that it would be free from political interference.
“The investigation into the Central Bank bond issue should be free from political interference,” President Maithripala Sirisena said.
He gave this assurance during his address at the inauguration of the SLFP membership promotion program in Maharagama.
“Even though COPE fulfilled its duties, respecting the laws of the Parliament and the Constitution, various opinions have been brought forward in this regard. Nevertheless, a precise response to this issue can be brought to the public through a proper judicial process,” the President added.
The President further emphasised that he stepped down from the previous Government and established a new Government with the support of all, not to allow one section of society to do wrong while others were punished.
President Sirisena went on to express that many new parties had emerged in the country’s history but no party had been able to challenge the SLFP.
He emphasised that the journey to form a SLFP Government in the future, while guiding the party towards a positive political future, would move forward regardless of any challenge faced during that journey.
Western Province Chief Minister Isura Devapriya felicitated the President, conveying the respect felt for him by SLFP members from the Maharagama electorate.
A new SLFP membership card was introduced, with the President presenting it to new members of the party.
Ministers and MPs of the SLFP, such as SLFP Secretary Minister Duminda Dissanayake and UPFA General Secretary Mahinda Amaraweera, participated in the event.
