The demographic divisions of the country such as North, South, East and West are only in maps, hence, everybody should consider this as one country, President Maithripala Sirisena said. He emphasised that the country could not be partitioned through laws or boundaries.

Speaking at a ceremony held on Tuesday in Kilinochchi town to open the modern supermarket-style Sathosa Mega Complex for the district, he said: “Every citizen in the country should be able to live freely, enjoying their rights. The current Government is totally committed to ensuring their rights.” President Sirisena recalled that the Government was committed to fulfilling the expectations of the people of the North, South, East and West who voted for him at the Presidential Election held last January.

“The programs to assist them will be further strengthened by the new Government to be elected at the forthcoming General Elections,” he added.

The President stated that everybody in this country should share similar facilities.

“The Government is dedicated to improving the education, health and infrastructure facilities of the Northern people to be similar to those in the South.

He expressed his confidence in the cooperation of Northern farmers for the local food production program to be implemented by the Government in the future.

After opening the mega complex by unveiling of the plaque, the President had cordial discussions with the people who gathered in Kilinochchi Town to participate in this ceremony.

Minister Rishad Bathiudeen and Northern Provincial Council Member Angajan Ramanathan were also present at the occasion.
