The hotel offers three exclusive birding tours designed by Sri Lanka’s renowned Ornithological Tour Guide, Upali Ekanayake, who has conducted extensive research on birdlife and authored many scientific publications. He has developed these unique birding trails for the guests staying at The Paradise Resorts & Spa, after conducting extensive observation sessions. Accordingly, the adjoining ‘Kaludiyapokuna Forest Reserve’ plays a nurturing host to over 90 species of birds—endemic, residential and migratory.

Brown-capped babbler, Sri Lanka green pigeon, crimson-fronted barbet, Sri Lankan wood shrike, blue-faced malkoha, orange-breasted green pigeon, white-browed fantail flycatcher, and Sri Lankan swallow are some of the endemic species guests can witness during their birding tours. 

Within this tranquil environment, birdwatchers can keep a look out for migratory bird species such as orange-headed ground thrush, Indian paradise flycatcher, bran swallow, green leaf warbler, Asian brown flycatcher and Indian pond heron. 

Bird enthusiasts can also observe a vast array of resident birds including the painted stork, great cormorant, crested hawk eagle and alexandrine parakeet. The area is also home to various species of raptors such as the white-bellied sea eagle, black eagle, crested hawk and crested serpent eagle.
