Charmarie Maelge has been appointed as the Managing Director of Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau on 23 May.
No stranger to the tourism industry, Maelge started her tourism career as the Marketing Director for the Tourist Board, subsequently taking over the roles of London Office Director in the UK, and Research and International Affairs Director. Thereafter, she has worked for the UK-based Travel Foundation, creating the Responsible Tourism Partnership in Sri Lanka. She has national and private sector experience in the tourism sector, and is also a certified trainer and assessor in tourism. Currently, she is on the visiting faculty of the Hospitality and Leisure Management Department of the University of Colombo. Her work in a number of pivotal tourism sector roles in Government, private sector, and especially hands-on experience in crisis management and recovery of tourism will be a valuable strength to SLTPB.
“Charmarie Maelge’s experience will be very valuable to the Government and the tourism industry at this juncture, and we are happy to have her accepting this important role”, said Tourism Development, Wildlife and Christian Religious Affairs Minister John Amaratunga.
Maelge has a MBA and a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Colombo Sri Lanka. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM UK) and SLIM Sri Lanka.
