Marking International Women’s Day, on 8 March, Area Director Sri Lanka, Maldives and Malaysia, and Taj Samudra Colombo General Manager Pankaj Sampat together with the team had special offerings to salute the lady associates of Taj Samudra. It was a fun-filled day for all Taj Samudra Colombo lady associates and the event was held at the Heritage Block The Crystal Building.
Surgeon Dr. Dilini Samarakoon and Dr. Asela Anthony graced the occasion by speaking to Taj Associates during the event.
Pankaj Sampat emphasised on sanitation impacting women’s health and leadership qualities. He further mentioned that today, females as career women at work juggle with multiple yet valuable roles such as being a daughter, sister and a mother, while contributing with their unique abilities and creativity. In line with the International Women’s Day theme #EachforEqual at #WD 2020, he further reinstated the importance for shift in attitudes for minimising gender barriers and that number of women employed to be equal to that of men.
“Women should be given work/career related long-term opportunities such as leadership to remain in employment and guided to excel at work,” he added. Making the concluding remarks, Sampat mentioned that he is willing to render his support where women can grow and be recognised at work for – who they are!
Taj Samudra, Colombo has recruited female students from universities in the rural provinces like Sabaragamuwa and Uva Universities and female cadre from the Sri Lanka Forces to various services like Valet, Fitness Centre, Security Department, and the Food and Beverage Department at the hotel.
The hotel has upgraded the female locker rooms facilities and opened the day care centre which is in operation for the children of Taj Samudra employees since 2016.
