The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Vietnam, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB), hosted a tourism promotional event on 30 October at the Ambassador’s residence. The event that targeted Vietnamese media, travel agents, and representatives from tourism industry including members from the Vietnam Tourism Association (VITA) and the Vietnam Society of Travel Agents (VISTA), was attended by over 30 participants.
Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Vietnam Poshitha Perera, elaborated on Sri Lanka’s exotic but often-overlooked tourist attractions, with the aim to appeal to the Vietnamese market. Tourism promotional videos and recorded messages from SLTPB Chairman Buddhika Hewawasam and, Tourist Hotels Association of Sri Lanka (THASL) President Shanthikumar with Vietnamese translations were also shared during the event. Moreover, the attendees were introduced to the experiences of the participants of the past Vietnam familiarisation tour, followed by a Q&A session. The evening concluded with the savouring of authentic Sri Lankan cuisine, offering guests an enriching cultural experience.
Vietnam, with a population exceeding a hundred million and a growing middle-income group seeking new travel destinations, presents a promising market for Sri Lankan tourism. Last year the number of outbound tourists from Vietnam reached approximately five million, underscoring the potential for Sri Lanka to become a desired destination among Vietnamese travellers.
