Sri Lanka’s celebration of 72 years of independence from colonial rule has caught the attention of social media users, with Emirates taking to Facebook to greet the country and its people.

The post ‘From Dubai, with Love’ wishes the people of Sri Lanka Happy Independence Day, with an eye-catching image of an Emirates official at Dubai International Airport waving off an A380 with the flags of Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates.

“For 34 of the 72 years since Sri Lanka gained independence, Emirates has supported the paradise island with connections to the world, and we have loved every minute of it,” the post said. “We wish the people of Sri Lanka happy Independence Day!”

Now the world’s largest international airline, Emirates commenced flights to Colombo, its fourth overseas destination, on 1 April 1986. Today, the award-winning airline operates four flights a day to and from Colombo, connecting Sri Lanka to a global network of 159 destinations on six continents, transporting 20% of the country’s exports by air and employing nearly 1,300 Sri Lankans.
