“Golden opportunity for attraction and activity owners to market themselves smartly” – Director Dr. Weerasiri

Conceived as a one-stop platform that combines all the features that tourists need to enjoy everything Sri Lanka has to offer, RuniT functions as an itinerary planner, emergency contact, and digital pass. It will also include special deals and offers. For tourists, the biggest advantage will be being able to use a single digital pass to access the myriad attractions of the country. All they will have to do is select the attractions they wish to visit and pay the relevant fee. They will then receive a special QR code which they can scan at another App installed at the attractions to gain admission. They will also be able to view a list of attractions in their vicinity.

“RuniT has been created to be a true disruptive innovation in Sri Lanka’s tourism industry,” states RuniT Founder and CEO Pradeep Siriwardane. “We believe it is the need of the hour, as the Government has set ambitious targets for tourist arrivals in 2020. For us to effectively compete with other tourist destinations, we need to offer visitors the best experience possible. It is currently not possible to buy tickets online to many key attractions in the country. At the moment, tourists often spend many hours queuing to purchase tickets for entry and sometimes end up paying exorbitant amounts to unscrupulous third parties. Our App solves these issues by offering them a much safer and convenient way of gaining admission.”

Enumerating on the app’s many features, he adds, “RuniT also includes real-time updates of operating hours, so tourists don’t have to travel for hours only to find that the attraction they are visiting is closed. They will also have an emergency contact that they can activate anywhere on the island. By being able to view all the details of major attractions, prospective visitors will also be able to plan and budget for their vacation to Sri Lanka. We also hope to offer special deals for our users to enjoy.”

Siriwardane believes that RuniT addresses a critical need in Sri Lanka’s digital marketplace. He says, “As many countries in the region already use technology to deliver a better experience to their visitors, we hope the launch of RuniT will help Sri Lanka’s tourism industry regain its competitive advantage. In fact, we are offering the App to the Sri Lankan government free of charge to get them onto the digital landscape. We make every effort to RuniT available internationally to all travellers.”

Commenting on RuniT, Director and Marketing Advisor Dr. Sudath Weerasiri says, “If you consider the tourists coming to Sri Lanka, virtually all of them have mobile phones. Our app gives them a comprehensive range of services they need to enjoy their stay in one platform. We have ensured that the app can operate seamlessly on a variety of devices and operating systems. Since the app is free of charge to users, we anticipate that many people who are thinking about visiting Sri Lanka will download the app to check the attractions and activities they can enjoy. Consequently, RuniT will be able to attract new tourists while strengthening our existing market.”

Speaking on the opportunities that the app presents, he adds, “This is a golden opportunity for attraction and activity owners to market themselves smartly. It is also a wonderful opportunity for restaurants, bars, and spas to promote their services to a global audience. Unlike most industries, the tourism industry is spread throughout the country with many people depending on it for their livelihood. RuniT will be of great benefit to entrepreneurs and those who work in the service industries.”

As an innovative and technologically advanced application, RuniT has much to offer Sri Lanka. The creators of this app encourage all stakeholders to take advantage of the registration period to join hands with them to take Sri Lankan tourism to greater heights.
