Galle Face Hotel celebrated Women’s Day with members of the staff, giving them the opportunity to express themselves through dance and music on 5 March. The event was organised for the first time and will be held in the years to come.

International Women’s Day is observed every year on 8 March around the world to celebrate women.

The purpose of the day is to give women from various cultures and ethnic groups the chance to come together crossing all boundaries to remember their struggle for peace, justice, equality and development. The day allows women to raise their voices for the stance that they deserve.

The celebrations were brought to life by the hotel’s General Manager Deni Ohlsen Dukic who believes that women are as important as men and are a great and powerful component of society. The ceremony paid tribute to all lady members of the staff.

Dukic said: “I am very proud to organise the very first international appreciation for our women employees and family. It is strength that we have to be united and it is very important that we stand as one altogether.”

The event gave stage to six staff members to perform as four of them shared beautiful melodies with the audience while two of them danced their hearts out to both local and Indian tunes. Alongside the entertainment a raffle draw was organised, awarding three prizes for the winners.

International Women’s Day is about making women realise their worth and giving them the boost to achieve as per their actual potential.

On this day the world unites to appreciate their courage to cross all hurdles and make a tremendous improvement in nearly all spheres of life.

As women are the major part of society and play a great role in the economic, political, and social activities, International Women’s Day is commemorated to remember and appreciate women and their achievements across the world.
