Leading Sri Lankan travel solutions provider Hayleys Tours will serve as the Official Travel Partner to the internationally famed triathlon, IRONMAN 70.3, set to take place in Colombo on 25 February 2018.

Serving as the qualifying round for triathletes seeking to compete in the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships in Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa, the Sri Lankan event will take place in the heart of Colombo, starting at the Galle Face Green with a one-loop 1.9 km swim through the warm and clear waters of the Indian Ocean.

The swimming section of the triathlon will be followed by a flat and fast three-loop 90 km bike course that will travel through Colombo’s city centre and past the old parliament building and the historic Port of Colombo.

“Having partnered the local franchise holder Pro-Am Serendib to bring this prestigious event to Sri Lanka from the most preliminary stages, it has been a true privilege for Hayleys Tours to support this world-famous event as it makes its first steps into the South Asian region. The remarkable abilities of athletes who compete in the IRONMAN triathlon serve as a powerful source of inspiration for thousands across the globe and all of us at Hayleys Tours are gearing up for a truly memorable event,” said Hayleys Tours Director Amith Sumanapala.

Currently one of the largest ongoing sporting events in the world, the IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon is widely considered one of the most challenging single-day sporting events in the world. Pro-Am Serendib Ltd. is the official licensee of the World Triathlon Corporation and owner of the IRONMAN global triathlon brand, and as organisers, they are hopeful that IRONMAN 70.3 Colombo will become an annual event, putting Sri Lanka on the global triathlon map.

“The fact that Colombo is hosting such a major event will definitely generate very positive exposure for the country and together with the thousands of participants who will be travelling with their families and supporters to participate in IRONMAN 70.3 we believe that this is going to be a landmark event for our nation.

“In that regard, I warmly invite all Sri Lankans to attend IRONMAN 70.3 to take up the challenge and participate in the event directly or to attend and show their support for these courageous, world-class athletes,” Sumanapala stated.
