Inauguration of 6th intake for CHFMA Professional Program

The Certified Hospitality Finance and Management Accountant (CHFMA) sixth intake was inaugurated at Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (SLITHM) on 2 February. 

CHFMA is the premier and the only professional qualification specialised in hotel accounting and operation in Sri Lanka which is offered by CMA Sri Lanka the National Professional Management Accounting Body in Sri Lanka jointly with SLITHM the Government Training Institute for the Hospitality, Travel and Tourism Industry coming under the Ministry of Tourism Development.

Certified Management Accountants Sri Lanka (CMA Sri Lanka) President Prof. Lakshman R. Watawala was the Chief Guest at the inauguration ceremony while CHFMA Course Director and Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts Sri Lanka John Keells Holdings PLC former Senior Vice President/Sector Financial Controller Sunil Peiris, Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts Group Cost Controller and Senior Lecturer Rajitha Fernando addressed the gathering at this event.

Prof. Watawala addressing the gathering emphasised that with the increasing demand for Hospitality and Tourism professionals locally and globally, a professional qualification in Finance and Accounting in the Hospitality and Tourism sector will enhance the knowledge of accountants and managers to improve the profitability and cost competitiveness of the industry. 

There are plenty of opportunities to engage in this industry with stable employment and attractive salaries. He stated that CHFMA has reached now to the final level which is professional stage 2 and the first batch of CHFMA professionals will pass out at end of the year.  

Newly registered students also had an opportunity to listen to senior student’s life experience in CHFMA and success achieved in attending the program and passing the exams where they were promoted and rewarded by the employers. This batch consisted of a total of 100 registered students showing the great demand for the program.

The CHFMA program consists of four levels, Foundation, Certificate, Diploma and Professional and students after O/L and A/L and those with accounting experience can join at the Foundation level and those with part professional qualifications can join at the Certificate Level and will assist to train skilled finance and accounting staff for the hospitality sector.
