The Mandarina Colombo recently announced that the hotel was the proud recipient of the ‘Leading Business Hotel’ award at the South Asian Travel Awards 2022 (SATA), which was held for the sixth time on 30 September, with a gala and awards ceremony at Adaaran Select Hudhuranfushi in The Maldives.
Macksons Holdings Director Hospitality Sarah Mizver, Group Financial Controller Shameela Mizver, Macksons Properties Director/CEO Ranga Goonewardene, Mandarina Colombo General Manager Dinesh Hettiarachchi, and Mandarina Colombo Head of Sales Ramesh Vidanarachchi attended the occasion on behalf of Mandarina Colombo to accept the award.
The South Asian Travel Awards (SATA), recognises the best of South Asia’s hospitality and travel industry. The prestigious annual event honours stellar organisations and individuals in a wide array of categories. SATA opened the nominations with over 52 categories for properties and brands to compete, in addition to Visitors Choice Awards and Special Recognition Awards.
A total of six South Asian countries competed for SATA 2022, with more than 500 venues being nominated for the awards. The awards have been endorsed by over 15 organisations in the Maldives and SAARC region. Additionally, the panel of jury members for the awards ceremony included Dr. Mahamood Shougee – former Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation of the Maldives, Dr. Sachin Bansal – one of India’s foremost destination branding specialists with a vast influence on India’s tourism sector, Sangeeta Rana – the Executive Director of the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Bhutan, Rinku Madan – a Harvard Graduate specialised as a writer in Global Luxury, Mariyam Noordeen – a Founder and the President of Chefs Guild of Maldives and a member of World Association of Chefs Society, and Amal Goonetilleke – an industry veteran in tourism and hospitality, specialised in sales and marketing for hotels and resorts.
