Myanmar has expanded its visa on arrival (VOA) system. Since the beginning of October, tourists from six countries (Australia, Germany, Italy, Russia, Spain and Switzerland) can enter Myanmar with a VOA at Yangon, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw International Airports.

Pre-arranged approval is no longer needed for passport holders of those countries as they can now apply for a visa which will be granted instantly. The fee for the VOA is $ 50.Japanese, South Korean, Hong Kong and Macau tourists were granted visa-free entry last year. Indian and Chinese nationals from the mainland were also granted visas-on-arrival (VOA) into Myanmar in a move to attract more Asian tourism into the country.

In 2019 Q2, the tourism industry in Myanmar witnessed an increase of arrival from those nationals with visas free and visas-on-arrival countries.

“We do hope that these new regulations to ease access to Myanmar, will lead to more travellers from around the world to discover the unique Myanmar culture, nature and most of all the hospitality of the people,” said Myanmar Tourism Marketing Chairperson May Myat Mon Win.
