Regenta Arie Lagoon, Negombo, a part of Royal Orchid Hotels Ltd., was voted as ‘Best Offshore Resort for MICE and Wedding’ at the Indian Travel Awards held on 25 July at the Hyatt Regency in New Delhi.
The event was convened to recognise outstanding contributions and achievements by hotels and individuals in the travel sector. Royal Orchid Hotels India owning and operating over 97 hotels in 58 locations in India with over 5,500 rooms and expanding their footprint globally took over the management of Arie Lagoon in Pamunugama Road, Thalahena, Negombo for a 20-year period.
Vice President International Hotels Utarsh Faujdar who is looking after the Regenta Arie Lagoon said their management took over the Negombo property and rebranded it as Regenta Arie Lagoon making it their first overseas venture. “It was the perfectly built and marinated banquets and MICE facilities that attracted our management to invest in this hotel. This award justifies our selection. The hotel has two swimming pools and a large landscape garden overlooking the lagoon and this backed up by our international standard MICE facilities, makes the 55 roomed, four-star deluxe property, ideal for Indian corporate incentive outings and conferences as well.”
He said that they have already commenced marketing Regenta Arie Lagoon to the Indian market and the response was very good especially for destination weddings and corporate events both from India. “We also have a very positive response from Sri Lanka as well.” Faujdar said that they also will introduce novel features including an international spa to Regenta Arie Lagoon soon. “For the first time we will also market Indian travel packages linking our hotels to Sri Lankans from the end of the year when Royal Orchid Hotels completed their ownership of 100 hotels in India.”
Royal Orchid Hotels Chairman and Managing Director Chander K. Baljee earlier said that through Petnaa AMC, a local company in asset management and consultancy having international access on Investors, they plan to take over the management in a similar hotel in Kandy and one more in Bentota. “Negotiations in this regard are almost complete and we will move into these hotels before the end of 2023 and manage over 100 keys in Sri Lanka.”
He said that they will also move into Nepal and Thailand to manage hotels which are of similar three star plus quality.
