The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Oman organised a golf tournament in collaboration with the Ghala Golf Club in Muscat on 11 December as part of a Sri Lanka tourism event while commemorating the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and the Sultanate of Oman which falls this year.
The Embassy showcased Sri Lanka tourism by playing videos of tourist attractions during the tournament at Ghala Golf Club. The event commenced with the lighting of a traditional oil lamp, traditional drumming (Magul Bera) and Hak performance by the students of the Sri Lankan School Muscat followed by the National Anthems of the Sultanate of Oman and Sri Lanka. A ceremonial cake cutting was then held to mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries with the participation of the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Sultanate of Oman Ameer Ajwad and other dignitaries.
Foreign Ministry of Oman Department of Global Affairs Head and Human Rights Committee of Oman Deputy Chairman Ambassador Humaid Al Maani, Ambassadors of Brunei, Pakistan and South Korea to the Sultanate of Oman, Board member of the Ghala Golf Club Faiz Mohamed Riyaz, SriLankan Airlines Country Manager Fayaz Thaha and the other dignitaries graced the occasion as special guests.
Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Ameer Ajwad highlighted the importance of sports in promoting connectivity between the two friendly nations and encouraged the frequent exchange of sports activities between the two countries. He also announced the arrival of Sri Lankan hockey teams in Oman to play friendly matches with the Omani hockey teams later this month, to mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The winner of the tournament Ahmed Al Lamki was presented a trophy by Ambassador Ameer Ajwad jointly with Ambassador Humaid Al Maani, Board member of Ghala Golf Club Faiz Mohamed Riyaz and SriLankan Airlines Country Manager Fayaz Thaha. The winner was also presented business class air tickets to visit Sri Lanka, sponsored by SriLankan Airlines, and a two-night stay at Mövenpick Hotel Colombo sponsored by Esna Holidays Colombo. During the event, Sri Lanka tourism was promoted displaying ‘So Sri Lanka’ banners, posters and brochures. Representatives of the SriLankan Airlines distributed leaflets on attractive travel packages to Sri Lanka to all participants.
The event was sponsored by Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, SriLankan Airlines, Esna Holidays in Sri Lanka, Mövenpick Hotel Colombo, United Technical Solutions, Bread Box and Ojaye Restaurant in Oman.
