The Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators (SLAITO) celebrated the successful conclusion of its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 2 September at Shangri La Hambantota. The event brought together esteemed members and industry leaders, reaffirming SLAITO’s unwavering commitment to fostering growth and innovation within Sri Lanka’s dynamic tourism sector.
The AGM served as a platform for SLAITO members to convene and engage in discussions regarding the latest industry trends, challenges, and opportunities. It also provided a vital forum for reviewing the association’s achievements over the past year and outlining its strategic vision for the future.
Nishad Wijetunga was re-elected and will continue as President for the year 2023/2024 together with Vice Presidents Bobbi Jordan Hansen and Nalin Jayasundera, whilst Nilan Wickremasinghe and Charith De Alwis have been appointed Honorary Treasurer and Secretary, respectively.
“During the past year, we have witnessed the power of unity within SLAITO. Our collaborative efforts to support sustainable practices, and promote responsible tourism have not only helped us overcome challenges but have also set a new standard for the industry. We have shown the world that even in the face of adversity, the tourism sector can be a force for positive change,” SLAITO President Nishad Wijetunga said.
“Looking ahead, as we envision a brighter future for Sri Lanka’s tourism industry, it is imperative that we continue to work hand in hand. Our commitment to innovation, sustainability, and excellence must remain unwavering. By fostering partnerships, embracing technology, and nurturing the talents of our workforce, we can ensure that Sri Lanka remains a beacon of hospitality and cultural richness for generations to come,” he added.
Delivering the keynote address Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau Chairman Chalaka Gajabahu provided insights into the highly anticipated destination marketing campaign and outlined the “next steps” and “way forward” for Sri Lanka Tourism.
SLAITO also recognised veteran industry professional and a past President of SLAITO Chandra WIckramasinghe for his dedicated and innovative contribution in the tourism industry with a ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’.
SLAITO expressed its appreciation to all participants, speakers, sponsors, and attendees who contributed to the AGM’s success. The association remains resolute in its mission to promote Sri Lanka as a premier inbound travel destination and enhance the experiences of travellers visiting this beautiful island nation.
