The Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB) successfully hosted a MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism educational session on 3 July at Hilton Colombo Residences.
The session specifically targeted students in Colombo pursuing degrees and courses in hospitality and event management. 50 enthusiastic students representing 10 Government and private universities and tourism institutes participated in this event.
SLCB Chairman Thisum Jayasuriya said: “With Sri Lanka’s tourism sector experiencing significant growth, it is crucial to enhance the skills of the younger generation poised to lead this industry.” He emphasised that the focus on skill development for young professionals is a key component of the Road Map for MICE Tourism in Sri Lanka, which the bureau outlined last year.
The event featured prominent speakers from the tourism sector, including Dr. Vipula Wanigasekera, Felicia Adhihetty, Paddy Paul, and Gihan Samarasekara, all of whom are veterans in their respective fields.
Moving forward, SLCB plans to conduct additional MICE training and awareness sessions across different regions, targeting various audiences over the next six months.ness sessions across different regions, targeting various audiences over the next six months.
