Scottish Planter Glendevon Bungalow by Theme Resorts and Spas was recognised as ‘The Best Bungalow’ at the sixth annual Sri Lanka Tourism Awards hosted by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority on 6 December 2018. This significant awards night was held at Shangri-La Hotel, Colombo, in the company of the best tourism businesses in the country.
Theme Resorts and Spas believes in preserving Sri Lanka’s culture and practices through their hotels. This is evident in all their properties; Aliya Resort and Spa in Sigiriya (which aims to depict an uncomplicated lifestyle of a villager who is surrounded by all of nature’s splendour), Maalu Maalu Resort and Spa in Pasikudah (a fishing village of the East), Kithala Resort in Tissamaharama (a birdwatcher’s paradise, surrounded by an abundance of paddy fields), Mountbatten Bungalow in Kandy (formerly the residence of Lord Mountbatten during the time of the British Rule), Ayurvie Resort and Spa in Weligama (an ayurvedic retreat designed for guests’ who are interested in wellness travel) and last but not least, Scottish Planter Glendevon Bungalow situated in Ragala, Nuwara-Eliya (an olden day tea planter’s abode).
Glendevon Bungalow was presented with this prestigious award under the ‘Supplementary Tourist Accommodation’ category. Despite a number of entries into this category, only three accommodation providers were nominated as the potential winner. Scottish Planter Glendevon Bungalow rose amongst fellow competitors and won their well-deserved title. This property has significantly contributed to Sri Lanka Tourism by providing their guests with a second home and an experience not found elsewhere in the country. It is a bungalow designed according to traditional Scottish allure and architecture, giving priority to its’ own heritage and luxury, whilst creating a sense of nostalgia for the good times that resound through her walls, the way of life, the conversations had and the guests’ entertained by the old tea planter who once took shelter inside and called her home. This property aims to recreate such memories and create a safe haven for guests to relax, indulge and enjoy.
Further, whilst being aware of emerging trends, the bungalow chooses to preserve its’ culture and adapt to change without condensing what it stands for and therefore stay true to the title awarded to them as the best bungalow in Sri Lanka in the years to come.
