Following on the resounding success of the Sri Lanka’s first-ever Ironman 70.3 Colombo triathlon, organisers Pro-Am Serendib and Hayleys Tours announced that Colombo’s most prestigious city hotels were once again signing on as Partner Hotels for the triathlon that is set to take place early next year.
As was the case with the inaugural event, the Shangri-La Colombo once again returns as Host Hotel to Ironman 70.3 while The Kingsbury, Hilton Colombo, Taj Samudra, Cinnamon Lakeside, Cinnamon Grand, Movenpick Colombo, Galle Face Hotel, Hotel Galadari, Fairway Colombo, Ramada Colombo, Ozo Colombo, Steuart by Citrus and Colombo City Hotel will serve as Partner Hotels to the event.
“On behalf of the organisers, we’d like to officially extend a warm welcome all of our prestigious Partner Hotels aboard for Ironman 70.3 Colombo 2019. Given the outstanding success of our inaugural event last February, we are expecting an even stronger turnout from local and international athletes. We are all very excited to keep this legendary event returning to our shores, and our Partner Hotels are absolutely vital to helping us replicate and build on the success of the inaugural 2018 event,” Hayleys Tours Director Amith Sumanapala said.
The inaugural Ironman 70.3 Colombo took place in February this year, attracting over 880 participants and over 2,300 friends and families from 63 countries, and foreign exchange contributions close to $ 3 million. As in its first year, the event will be jointly organised by Pro-Am Serendib together with official travel partner, Hayleys Tours and public sector organisations including the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau and the Ministry of Tourism.
In order to ensure a smooth and enjoyable stay for guests and participants, all accommodation partners will be offering special rates exclusively for Ironman participants obtainable through Hayleys Tours, in addition to other special rates on complimentary value additions such as discounts on F&B, spa services, laundry and more.
Ironman 70.3, which is also dubbed as Half Ironman, is part of a series of long distance triathlon races held globally, which was initiated by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC). The “70.3” in this segment denotes the total distance (113.0 km) covered in the race and consists of a 1.2-mile (1.9 km) swim, a 56-mile (90 km) bike ride, and a 13.1-mile (21.1 km) run. Each of these distances, comprising of the swim, bike, and run segments adds up to half the distance of that segment in an Ironman triathlon.
Notably the triathlon, which will be organised as an age-group only race, will offer 30 qualifying slots for the forthcoming 2019 Ironman 70.3 World Championship set to take place in Nice, France.
