The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Milan organised a country promotional event at the renowned Tritone Luxury Hotel Thermae and Spa in Padua, Italy on 18 September 2024. It was organised as part of a 9-day long series of events themed ‘TritoneZen: Journey to the East’ hosted by Tritone Luxury Hotel Thermae and Spa, nestled in the serene heart of Abano Terme (in Padua), Italy’s renowned wellness destination.
The program lasted from 13 to 21 September celebrating the unique traditions, wellness practices, spiritual philosophies and nutrition driven gastronomy of Eastern cultures. It served as a platform to bring together cultures from the East, showcasing the rich diversity of the region. Sri Lanka, with its historical significance and deep-rooted traditions in wellness, healing and spirituality, played a central role in the program. India, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam and China (the region of Tibet) also took part in this event.
An Ayurvedic expert with Sri Lankan origin demonstrated the country’s Ayurvedic practices, traditional healing methods, and meditative rituals that have been passed down through generations. Guests were introduced to a variety of immersive experiences, including Sri Lankan meditation sessions and Ayurvedic wellness treatments designed to bring balance and harmony to the mind and body. With growing interest in holistic well-being, Sri Lanka’s participation in TritoneZen aligns with its vision to attract travellers seeking transformative and rejuvenating experiences.
The event also spotlighted Sri Lanka’s culinary practices with a live demonstration of the preparation of various delicacies. Guests were also treated to an assortment of hoppers with different condiments including katta sambal, coconut sambal and kithul trickle. The cooking show was followed by a Ceylon Tea tasting session conducted by Gabriella Scarpa, an Italian tea sommelier from the AR-TEA Academy in Venice. Different varieties of Ceylon Tea, including the 7-Region Tea and Ceylon Artisanal Tea were presented to the guests highlighting their unique features and health benefits. The Ceylon Tea-infused cocktail and mocktail were the centrepiece of the tea tasting session.
The day-long program of Sri Lanka also featured a cultural show, including traditional Sri Lankan dance and music with colourful attire, offering the guests an immersive experience of the country’s rich artistic legacy. Three dance schools from Milan and Brescia performed back-to-back, captivating the audience with their spectacular and rhythmic performances. Their dynamic performances brought the event to life, leaving a lasting impression on all in attendance.
This high-profile event was part of Sri Lanka’s ongoing efforts to strengthen ties with Italy, promote tourism and enhance bilateral relations. The scenic setting of Tritone Luxury Hotel Thermae and Spa provided the perfect backdrop for showcasing Sri Lanka’s unique blend of culture, wellness, nature and adventure.
