The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau showcased a vibrant Sri Lankan cultural display at the recently concluded Carnival of Cultures (Karinival der Kulturen) which was held in Berlin from 7 to 10 June this month.
The Carnival of Cultures is an annual event, famed as a street festival which attracts throngs of tourists not only from Germany but from other parts of the world as well.
This street festival celebrates cultural diversity, converting the streets of Berlin into a stage for performances from all parts of the world. The event reflects many facets of Germany where people of many different origins gather to present the glamour of their cultural backgrounds.
It attracts approximately one million live spectators and over seven million TV viewers. Cultural groups and organisations from over 80 countries entertain visitors from all parts of Germany during the seven hour parade, with music, dances and decorated floats extending seven kilometres into the heart of Berlin through Whitsunday. In addition, there are around 400 stands and stages scattered around the exhibition venue.
The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau presented a dance group comprising 16 members of the Army Band and Performing Arts, with the help of the Sri Lanka Embassy and Sri Lanka Association in Berlin.
Sri Lanka tourism brochures, souvenirs and giveaways were distributed at their stand, which included a SLTPB information counter to encourage travel enthusiasts to have a memorable and exclusive experience in the island.
