Sri Lankan Cultural Centre opens in Jeju Island, Republic of Korea

The Sri Lankan Cultural Centre named “Maligawa” was opened in the Jeju Island, Republic of Korea under the patronage of prominent Korean businessman Kim Won-Jung on 7 June in collaboration with the Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Republic of Korea and the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau. 

Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Republic of Korea Chargé d’ Affaires Jagath Abeywarna, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations Sri Lanka Assistant Country Representative Dr. D.B.T. Wijeratne and Fadna Food and Nature Ltd. Managing Director Chamendra Somatunga were among the dignitaries at the opening ceremony. 

The Cultural Centre consists of a Ceylon Tea Cafe and an art gallery with a photograph collection illustrating Sri Lanka’s multi-faceted natural beauty, history, tea culture and way of life.  Delivering the congratulatory remarks at the opening ceremony, Chargé d’ Affaires Abeywarna stressed that the Cultural Centre would play a pivotal role in promoting Ceylon Tea and Sri Lanka as a tourist destination among the annual 15 million tourists that come to Jeju Island.
