HELSINKI: TUI Group, the world’s largest leisure tourism company, will start offering carbon-neutral destinations to Nordic holidaymakers next year – with a long-term goal of turning all its destinations carbon neutral for Nordic travellers.
To support its overall sustainability strategy, TUI Group has also committed to donating €10 million ($11.4 million) per year to good causes like TUI Care Foundation by 2020. The donations will go to
partners and projects with all operating costs of the foundation covered by TUI.
On top of CO2-neutral destinations through CO2-offsetting, reduction of the environmental impact of flying is a long-term goal for TUI in the Nordics.
TUI Airways – also flying Nordic customers – is already listed as the #1 most CO2-efficient airline in the world by atmosfair Airlines Index. TUI uses modern aircraft with 99% occupancy, significantly lowering CO2-emissions per customer. “Tourism globally contributes several times more to low and middle-income countries than development aid. Travel also creates an understanding between people, cultures and countries. It enables global societies and contributes to the world in a greater way,” said TUI Nordic Managing Director Alexander Huber.
Objectives by 2020 include supporting 100,000 children, working to protect one million turtles and 15,000 elephants.
