Situated on two-and-a-half acres of land by the Wilpattu Sanctuary, The Ibis hotel provides a serene escape for those wanting to experience Sri Lanka. Wanting to show each visitor the beautiful nature surrounding their villa, the once family home was converted into a tranquil escape for their guests to experience the nature and wildlife outside their room.
Just a few kilometers from the hotel, visitors will encounter the wonder that is the Wilpattu National Park. Termed the ‘Land of Lakes,’ Wilpattu is host to natural lakes and to a plethora of flora and fauna, including over 31 species of mammals ranging from the sloth bear to the Sri Lankan Leopard.
In an extension of the founders’ passion for nature and the environment, The Ibis – Wilpattu has teamed up with the Carbon Consulting Company (CCC) — Sri Lanka’s most passionate corporate environmental advocacy — as a hospitality sponsor for this year’s Asian Tree of the Year Contest (ATOY).
A lucky winner of the Sri Lankan Tree of the Year as well as the Asian contest itself will enjoy a one-night stay for two, including a jeep safari into the National Park and evening trekking excursion for bird watching.
CCC CEO Sanith de Silva Wijeyeratne commented on their partnership with The Ibis hotel by stating: “The commitment and generosity we have received this year from our sponsors has been tremendous in being able to make this contest a reality. Together with The Ibis hotel, the contest winner will experience firsthand the beauty that is our biodiversity in the hopes they better understand the importance of preserving it for future generations.” The Ibis – Wilpattu Co-founder and Managing Director Shervonne Perera stated: “We recognised the marvels of mother nature when we initiated the construction of the hotel. This competition is an excellent platform to heighten awareness as to the plight this planet, our home, is facing. In partnering with CCC, we hope to bring attention to this situation and generate a dialog on the environment. We too are proud to walk the path with them, to show that the hospitality sector is doing their part in protecting the natural world.” For more information on the Asian Tree of the Year contest and how to enter, please visit www.asiantreeoftheyear.com or Asian Tree of the Year on Facebook and Instagram.
