Newly appointed Tourism and Aviation Ministry Secretary S. Hettiarachchi made his first official visit to the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) recently. He was welcomed by CAASL Chairman Upul Dharmadasa, Director General Capt. Themiya Abeywickrema and Deputy Chairman Amitha Wijesuriya.
A discussion was also held on the future plans of CAASL and challenges faced by the aviation industry due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The top officials discussed the challenges posed by COVID-19, controlling the spread of the virus in future, the recommencement of international airline operations, as well conducting general operations of the sector henceforth.
Hettiarachchi also commended the efforts taken by all officers at CAASL for following the guidelines issued by Health authorities in containing the spread of the virus from air passengers. Hettiarachchi has over 35 years of experience in the Sri Lanka Administrative Service and has also served as the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government.
CAASL Chairman Upul Dharmadasa, Director General and CEO Capt.Themiya Abeywickrema, Vice President Amitha Wijesuriya, Tourism and Aviation Ministry Additional Secretary (Aviation) Sunil Gunawardena, Director (Aviation) Avanti Senaratne, CAASL Deputy Directors General Panduka Priyantha Jayaweera, Ranjith Perera, Rohan Manukulasuriya, P. Abeywickrama, Director General of Rehab Wanniappa Jayakantha and other senior officials were also present.
