AmCham and SLASSCOM join forces to leapfrog Sri Lanka tourism

The American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Sri Lanka in partnership with Sri Lanka Association for Software Services Companies (SLASSCOM) has organised a conference and an exhibition to enable the Sri Lankan tourism industry to leapfrog in becoming the destination of choice. The Conference and Exhibition will be held at the Kingsbury Hotel on 12th September 2013 at 2.00 pm. This program entails utilising innovative IT solutions to enable Hotels and Destination Management Companies (DMCs) to attract, service and retain guests with enhanced service offerings. This unique program includes a competition to select winning IT solutions for the Sri Lanka Tourism Industry. The shortlisted companies will be allowed to participate at the conference and trade exhibition attended by senior executives within the leisure industry and make presentations to the audience highlighting the business value of their solutions. The business interactions that will occur during the event will lead to higher level of entrepreneurship within IT Tourism sector and increased funding for companies engaged in such ventures. The final conference and the trade exhibition will be attended by senior executives within leisure and IT industries and from various associations such as SLAITO (Sri Lanka Association for Inbound Tour Operators) and (THASL) The Hotels Association in Sri Lanka. The conference includes a presentation by Google Industry Specialist Simon March focused on leveraging IT and digital media to enhance marketing, branding and revenue growth within the tourism industry in other developed markets such as China, Malaysia and Singapore. It will also feature a panel discussion led by a group of local experts who will share their views regarding the need to upscale the experience in the tourism industry by leveraging digital solutions. The panel discussion will be moderated by Jetwing Hotels Chairman Hiran Cooray. The panelists include SLAITO Chairman Mahen Perera, THASL Chairman Jayatissa Kehelpannala, John Keells Group CIO Ramesh Shanmuganathan, Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority CIO Udana Wickramasinghe and Tourist Hotels Association of Sri Lanka Immediate Past President Srilal Miththapala. AmCham Vice President Prasath Nanayakkara indicated that: “The business benefit of this program is expected to revolutionise the tourism industry in Sri Lanka by leveraging best in class IT solutions to enhance the quality of experience for all tourists visiting the island in the future. All participants will benefit by significant brand exposure and business networking opportunities presented within a premier event.”
