The world leader in news and information delivery – CNN has placed Anantara Tangalle on their list of ‘11 hotels opening in 2015 we can’t wait to check into’.
The list, which is part of CNN’s Quest’s Passport to 2015 – which acts as a guide to the year’s most anticipated cruises, destinations and events; gives Anantara Tangalle sixth place in its top 11 hotels listing, among properties from all over the world including the Four Seasons in Seoul, Lizard Island in Australia and the Lofoten Opera Hotel in Norway.
Speaking about the achievement Serendib Leisure Management Ltd Managing Director Ranil De Silva says, “Naturally we are honoured to have been listed among so many leading properties around the world. We are truly delighted that Anantara Tangalle’s unique features have been recognised, because the hotel really is a first of its kind in Sri Lanka.”
Scheduled to open in July 2015, the Anantara Tangalle Peace Haven Resort & Spa is set within a sprawling 18 hectares, and features 152 guest rooms including 32 pool villas. Each of these villas boasts its very own private plunge pool, a feature which places the property in a league of its own in Sri Lanka, and offers guests an unparalleled degree of luxury and privacy. The hotel will also offer guests the opportunity to sample the gastronomic delights of three restaurants, as well as a chance to experience total relaxation and bliss in its purpose-built spa.
Also notable are the architecture and design of the property, which is inspired by traditional Sri Lankan architecture and features high-pitched thatched roofs and breezy open spaces among groves of coconut palms. Decorated with local artwork, artefacts and hand-carved furniture, Anantara Tangalle’s design philosophy is typical of the Anantara brand which epitomises the very best in indigenous Sri Lankan design.
Tangalle is an ideal base for visitors, offering some of the most perfect beaches on the island, while also being close enough to easily facilitate the exploration of the Mulkirigala rock temple, Kalametiya Bird Sanctuary and Rekawa Turtle Conservation project. Speaking of the property’s serendipitous history Hemas Holdings PLC Director Abbas Esufally explains, “The Hemas Group actually acquired the property in Tangalle over two decades ago. Tangalle has long been appreciated for its exceptional beaches, mild climate and old world charm, and our management had the foresight to recognise that the property would one day lend itself to something truly spectacular, and it certainly has.”
Hemas is one of Sri Lanka’s top diversified listed conglomerates, with a focus on three key areas – Wellness, Leisure and Mobility. Hemas is the only Sri Lankan hotel chain to have been entrusted with the management of an international brand, as the Group’s subsidiary Serendib Leisure Management, is responsible for the management of the ‘Avani’ brand which is owned by Minor International, one of the largest hospitality and leisure companies in the Asia Pacific region. Serendib Leisure’s portfolio of unique hotels – Avani Bentota Resort and Spa, Avani Kalutara Resort, Club Hotel Dolphin and Hotel Sigiriya, represent a total room strength of 411, and with the addition of Anantara Tangalle Peace Haven, this will increase to 563.
