While the rest of the nation was in recovery mode from recent festivities, Bentota Beach Hotel was gearing up for yet another party. Over 120 guests celebrated their Orthodox Christmas on 6 January under the tropical stars at the sunny Bentota Beach Hotel.

Instead of being wrapped in woolly clothing in Russia and enjoying this celebration in temperatures below zero, guests were instead clad in beach wear and sundresses, relishing the tropical weather.

Guests were treated to Christmas carols sung by Silver Bells whilst savoring a scrumptious dinner with international and Russian cuisine by the poolside.

Merrymaking included dancing to music from a live band and resident DJ. The highlight of the evening was a spontaneous beauty pageant organised to crown the top three beauties at the party.

“Russian Christmas in this beautiful hotel facing the Indian Ocean in such stunning weather is a lovely change to celebrating it in the depths of winter in Russia,” said Tatiana Kalandzhi, one of the Russian guests at the party.
