Bentota Beach Hotel receives ‘Green Globale Re-Certification’

The premier world-wide sustainability merit ‘Green Globe Re-Certification’ for 2012/2013 was achieved by Bentota Beach Hotel.Re -Certification requires conformity to 315 pre-set standards; the team at Bentota Beach Hotel continuously worked to improve the standards of sustainability thus highlighting the importance of sustainable tourism and achievedacompliance rating of 77%, a 7% increase from last year’s rating.



Green Globe is the premier worldwide certification and performance improvement program developed specifically for the travel and tourism industry. Green Globe assists organizations to improve their economic, social and environmental sustainability while being rewarded and recognized for it.

Bentota Beach Hotel, being a member of the John Keells Hotels Group was a clear example of an entity that conforms to the guidelines of sustainable tourism and embodies itself as a socially responsible organization.

New innovations for Resource &Material Management, Waste Management, Environmental Conservation, compliance with legal requirements and the commitments taken to develop the local area community were some of the key aspects required for the re-certification that were successfully scored by the hotel. “The commitment made by all Bentota Beach Hotel staff has been marvelous in achieving this milestone.Priority was given to maintain all 315 pre- set standards of green globe requirements in order to progress continuously towards the next re-certification,” said Sanjeeva Perera, General Manager of Bentota Beach Hotel.
