Best Western International, a US-based hotel chain, is set to open its first hotel in Myanmar’s capital Nay Pyi Taw, in the second quarter of next year. Local dignitaries, senior company officials, VIPs and local and international media joined together in Yangon recently to mark the signing of The Grand at Nay Pyi Taw project. The 205-room hotel will become one of the first internationally-branded hotels in the central city, which is the seat of Myanmar’s government. “Myanmar has made great strides in recent years, opening up to the international community and allowing a new generation of visitors to see all the wonders this magical country has to offer,” said Glenn de Souza, VP for international operations for Asia and the Middle East. “Nay Pyi Taw, as the country’s modern capital, is at the very heart of this development. In hosting several major events, including this year’s Southeast Asian Games, the city is truly opening up to the world,” De Souza added.
