BIA access sans roadblocks

The road blocks which were located on the way to the main entry point of the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) at Katunayake were taken off on Saturday by the Government.

The road blocks were set up by Sri Lanka Air Force and have been there for the past 10 years, an airport official said.

They were initially put in place to provide security to the airport during the war period.  It is hoped that with the removal of road blocks, the minor traffic congestion that occurs at the entrance of the airport will be lessened, while making the system more efficient.

The security provided by Sri Lanka Air Force for the airport and surrounding security zones will continue
