Britisher arrested for defaulting 5-star hotel bill

A Britisher who was arrested on charges of having defaulted a five-star-hotel bill in Colombo was arrested and released on bail after being produced before a Colombo Court.
Two managers of Cinnamon Grand Hotel in Colombo had in two complaints to the Colpetty Police alleged that the Britisher, C. Michael Peter, had defaulted on a payment of Rs. 14,224 after using the hotel’s facilities including having 50ml of vodka, 25ml of brandy and sandwiches.
He had come to the hotel on 29 August and had reportedly left on the same day without paying the two bills. The suspect had been caught by hotel security officers the following day while he was returning to the hotel.
Police alleged that the British national had committed a punishable offence which comes under Section 403 and 396 of the Penal Code.
When the suspect was produced before Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage, he was ordered to be released on a surety of Rs. 50,000.
