Ceylon Hotel School Graduates Association appoints new CEO

The Ceylon Hotel School Graduates Association (CHSGA) – the prestigious and pioneering body of hospitality professionals, had the pleasure of appointing a new CEO to overlook its day-to-day operations concerning the specific functions of the association. Kumar Senaratne, assumed duties as the new CEO on 20 March 2014. Being a veteran hotelier himself, his debut with the Ceylon Hotel School began in 1972, and after successful pursuance of course studies, he graduated from CHS in 1975.   Considering his active membership role and continuous support in various activities of the CHSGA, Senaratne was elected to the office of President of CHSGA in 1999/2000. He will engage in attending to membership development, while being responsible for managing the overall affairs to ensure that the strategic and industry-oriented plans are effectively implemented; and will also liaise with authorities on behalf of CHSGA for the purpose of improving industry standards in professionalism. Among his other tasks would be to develop and recommend any administrative requirements including manpower to the EXCO ensuring that personnel and systems are in place, so that the day-to-day business affairs of the Association are appropriately managed. Commencing his career in the hoteliering industry, Senaratne held the positions of hotel general manager and a corporate general manager, before taking up an assignment in charge of a hotel company in Vietnam, as a CEO. With his long list of high-profile job portfolios – CHSGA is confident that Kumar Senaratne is the best choice for the above office and some of the main assignments (under different sub-committees) he will be involved in coordinating many activities such as  focus on the SLITHM, Hotel Show, International Conference, National Bartenders competition, Hoteliers dance, CSR activities and member welfare. The CHSGA was established in 1971 and incorporated by the Parliament Act No: 21 of 1984. The primary objective of the CHSGA is to serve the Industry while assisting the Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism & Hotel Management. Today, CHSGA has emerged as the driving force between the Hotel School and the Industry, while it continues to grow from strength to strength.
