Chaaya Wild recently received three ISO certifications less than a year since it was reopened following a complete refurbishment of the resort.

As a property that sits on the edge of the country’s most famous national park, Chaaya Wild was constructed with an absolute commitment to environmental sustainability. The resort continuously takes steps to maintain a balance between profitability and reducing overall environmental impact by implementing numerous green practices and adopting a strong eco-conscious position with respect to its management. As a result, it was awarded ‘ISO 14001: 2004 – Environmental Management System’ certification.

‘ISO/OHSAS 18001: 2005 – Health and Safety Management System’ certification was awarded to Chaaya Wild for their success in establishing and implementing streamlined processes and controls to minimise health and safety related risks and for taking preventive action whenever necessary. The resort has identified each possible risk area and has a Head of Department, who is accountable and given the title of ‘risk owner’, and a team that is responsible for keeping abreast of the risks that may occur.

The certification of ‘ISO/HACCP 22000: 2007 – Food Safety Management System’ was awarded to Chaaya Wild because of the specific attention given to every aspect of food management, including supporting services such as providers of food transportation, storage and distribution, catering services, product suppliers for equipment, additives, raw materials, cleaning and sanitising products, and packaging. This specific certification is important to any organisation that is directly or indirectly involved in food or food chain services. There has always been a certain uniqueness to each Chaaya property – all of which come under the umbrella of the John Keells Hotels group – given that they completely embrace the immediate environs of their diverse locations with a sense of passion and responsibility.
