Chamber of Tourism to support Eastern tourism development

Delegations of the Chamber of Tourism and Industry Sri Lanka, met Minister of Tourism, Eastern Provincial Council Nazeer Ahamed, recently to discuss several proposals on the development and promotions of tourism in the Eastern Province.

At this meeting, the Chamber of tourism was in the opinion, that the community should conduct a tourism awareness campaign, and it’sThe delegation from the Chamber of Tourism and Industry comprising of the President A.M. Jaufer, Secretary General  U.P.S. Pathirana, Chief Executive Officer Daya Weerasekara and SLDDA /Director P.U Rathnayaka who met the Eastern Province Tourism Minister Nazeer Ahamed  benefit to the Province prior to any major tourism development.

The community is still in suspicion of the rate of tourists, due to adverse impact of tourism visibly seen in some areas of the Island, where tourism has been develop haphazardly.

The community participation in tourism is considered as a vital factor for its development in the province. It was agreed to consider in empowering and developing self confidence among the community, which would make locals welcome tourists and treat them well, and is a sure way of ensuring repeat visitors to the province.

It was accepted that the community must have direct interaction with the tourists who visit the area, and make them comfortable. Therefore, the community participation needs to been encouraged true community awareness campaigns, in order to sustain the tourism industry of the Province.
