A delegation of 57 French Travel Agents, visited Sri Lanka recently on the ‘Treasure Hunt Mega Fam Trip 2014’, a familiarisation tour held with the objective of generating significant inbound tourism from the French market. The Ceylon Hotels Corporation’s (CHC) Lake Hotel Polonnaruwa was among the hotels that played host to the delegation. During their visit to the island the agents were treated to an interactive tour that showcased nature, sports and the cultural diversity of Sri Lanka and the Lake Hotel Polonnaruwa ensured that they had an unforgettable time, filled with great food, beautiful sights and sounds and a memorable cultural experience. “Partnering with international marketing initiatives such as this not only enhances the image of the destination but also adds significant value to the brand,” stated Galle Face Hotel Group Director of Marketing Communications Mahika Chandrasena. “The entire delegation was captivated by the beauty of Sri Lanka and the warmth of Sri Lankan hospitality that our island nation is famous for. I’m sure they took back many wonderful memories of their time in Sri Lanka.” France is the fifth largest contributing market for Sri Lanka with 57,881 tourist arrivals recorded up to date, an almost 30% increase in tourist arrivals compared to last year. It is anticipated that tourist arrivals this year will surpass 90,000 and the goal of achieving 100,000 tourist arrivals by 2016 will be surpassed. In 2013, Lonely Planet ranked Sri Lanka among the most beautiful destinations to visit in the world. Sri Lanka has received numerous awards and the country is proud to be at the top of the list of countries favored in inquiries related to tourism and travel. It is this insight that has led to strong brands such as Cinnamon Hotels and Resorts, SriLankan Airlines and Ceylon Hotels Corporations’ Resort Collection forming a strategic industry partnership to host a series of events for potential tourist markets.
