In a goodwill gesture, the Government of China of the Sichuan Province has agreed to offer the World Travel Fair to be staged in the Sichuan Province as a gratis offer to Sri Lanka Tourism together with free live coverage of the fair on Leshan TV channel, stated Sri Lanka Tourism Promotions Bureau Chairman Rohantha Athukorala.
Athukorala made the announcement post the meeting with Sichuan Province Vice Governor Huang Yanron and China National Tourism Administration Director General Li Shihon on the sidelines of the Annual Conference of PATA 2015 staged at the picturesque Leshan, Sichuan Province, China.
Sichuan Province has a population of 90 million people and two million of them travel overseas for leisure and business travel due to the economic development taking place in the region. The Government of Sichuan Province co-hosted the 2015 annual PATA conference, marketing the area for potential tourism.
“Air China already operates four flights a week and with the marketing thrust, we will make it a daily flight,” said Athukorala, given the marketing blitz agreed on that includes media cover and citywide taxi cab exposure linked to the trade push at the tourism fair targeting the top 70 travel partners on day one.
“A Sri Lanka Day will also be celebrated and thereafter for the rest of the month on a daily basis 100 travel shop owners will be invited so that 2,000 key Sri Lanka specialists can be developed,” he said.
