Sri Lanka’s newest domestic airline operator Cinnamon Air took a team of journalists on an aerial tour of Colombo to view the city’s preparations for the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting yesterday. The tour, which started with a boat ride to the company’s new seaplane dock in Peliyagoda from the famed Hamilton Canal, which aimed at giving the invited journalists a bird’s eye view of the new Colombo-Katunayake Expressway and the other completed infrastructure projects in and around the city, finally ended at Waters Edge, Battaramulla. Cinnamon Air, owned and operated by Saffron Aviation Ltd., is a joint venture between John Keells Holdings, Phoenix Ventures and MMBL, with a total investment of $ 10 million, consisting of two Cessna amphibious aircraft and one wheeled aircraft that operates daily scheduled flights to most of Sri Lanka’s popular tourist destinations eg: Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Kandy, Dickwella and Koggala. The airline operates from its own hangar facility at the Bandaranaike International Airport, making it convenient for tourists to take airport transfers to tourist destinations of their choice.  In addition, the company also organises charter flights to Jaffna, Arugam Bay, Nuwara Eliya, Kalpitiya and the Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport. Cinnamon also offers aerial photographic flights over the famed Sigirya rock. Having begun operations in July 2013, the airline has to date flown over 1000 passengers to these destinations with a predominantly tourist clientele. Due to its code-sharing agreement with the national carrier SriLankan airlines, flights can be booked via any SriLankan ticketing office or through the Cinnamon Air website – www.cinnamonair.com. Reservations can also be made via the company’s hotline 2475475. Pix by Daminda Harsha Perera
