Cinnamon Lodge Habarana reaps its first paddy harvest

In an effort to become a truly eco friendly resort, Cinnamon Lodge Habarana sowed its own paddy and set off on a journey of farming under organic principles four months ago. Accordingly the first ever harvest was reaped a few days back. The hotel together with guests celebrated this event with the true spirit of traditional harvesting that was lost with the advent of machines. “This not only was a revival of lost tradition but also served as an opportunity to educate both the local and mainly foreign guests of the soon to be forgotten customary practices of the past,” said Cinnamon Lodge General Manager Ghazzali Mohideen.

With the involvement of guests, the hotel staff participated in the traditions and customs associated with harvesting from singing of the traditional songs known as ‘kavi’ to the making of sweetmeats and partaking in a lunch together and recollected some fun filled memorable moments of the first ever harvest. Cinnamon Lodge also has its very own farm producing vegetables, dairy products and honey all of which are conducted adhering to organic principles.
