Cross Border Institute (CBI), which caters to the growing needs of the hospitality industry, expanded its reach by introducing UK accredited hospitality management programs in Sri Lanka. CBI has now affiliated with the City of Oxford College in the UK to introduce the Diploma in Hotel Operations and Service Management and the Diploma in Restaurant, Food & Beverage Service Management.BUP_DFT_DFT-6_02-10

The above programs provide a pathway for students to undertake UK accredited programs in Sri Lanka until full completion within a period of 14 months inclusive of paid on the job training at reputed hotels and restaurants in the country. In addition students can travel across to the UK or Singapore for further study with the potential to work within the industry.

CBI Co-Chairman and Managing Director Yatila Wijemanne stated: “The primary aim of establishing Cross Border Institute was fuelled by the need in Sri Lanka for a professional hospitality management institution, thus enabling Sri Lankan students to read towards internationally-recognised hospitality management programs. CBI with strong industry recognition and partnerships is perhaps the only education provider that bridges the gap between education and arrangement of employment. In this respect, Cross Border Academy is not only an education provider, but a catalyst in establishing the platform from qualification to employment.”

The teaching teams are highly specialised and have been trained in accordance with the City of Oxford College UK guidelines. In addition, the learning environment is of international standards with spacious and air-conditioned lecture rooms, technology integrated teaching, mock practical lecture rooms, personal tutoring, provision of learning material, and other facilities to facilitate the learning environment.

CBI Co-Chairman and Wissen Academy of Singapore Chairman Breyvan Tan highlighted that “students completing the Diploma in Sri Lanka can travel to the UK or Singapore to complete Degree and Masters programs in Hospitality”.

He further noted the important role CBI would play in shaping the hospitality educational environment and the industry in Sri Lanka.

The Diploma courses offered by CBI will be conducted over a period of 14 months, which includes eight months full time teaching and six months on the job paid training. Each Diploma consists of modules and sub-modules, which carry respective credit structures, providing a proper platform to undertake credit transfer programs between UK and Singapore affiliated institutions. This is a major factor determining the future of the student. On completion of the program CBA will guide and assist qualified students to enter into the best hotels in Sri Lanka. Furthermore, students can transfer across to the UK and Singapore. CBA will undertake the entire process of formalising the necessary documentation for education at Dimensions.
